About this time every year, the Colorado potato
beetles seem to develop an annoying resistance to
whatever I'm using at the time. A couple years ago it
was rotenone, this year it's pyrethrum. The first
couple dustings seem to really knock them out, but
then those later eggs hatch and it doesn't seem to
phase them. (Since the eggs are not from survivors of
the first dustings, it's not really resistance in the
evolutionary sense.)
For you organic or minimal chemical farmers, what are
your favorite botanicals?
Does the Bacillus strain for potato beetles really
work?
Where is a good place to purchase botanicals with
labels approved for commercial farms (as opposed to
the farm and garden stores that only have a label for
home gardens)?
Incidentally, Steve Diver, thanks for your input on
cuke beetle control and the good publications you put
together for ATTRA.
