Are you seeing a gray fuzzy growth at the base of the female
flower? If so, you may be suffering from Choenephora Rot, which often happens in
wet, cluody conditions, particularly if the flower is near or touching the soil.
Straw mulch can help. Warm, dry weather would help too. Poor pollination can
influence this problem too so make sure bees are visiting the flowers
often.
