ANOTHER of my pet peeves! Check out http://www.darksky.org.

City folks move out here and:
1)put up a "security" light. What? Are they afraid of the dark?
2)subscribe to a garbage pick-up service
3)put up a TV dish
4)buy a SUV to get over their un-maintained driveway
5)just generally defile things.

BAH! Humbug!

Willie,
I hear you about the light pollution!
We (suburban folk) did move from the city to the country about 11 years
ago, but we have no satellite dish (we have no TV, in fact!), we have no
SUV, we take our own garbage and compost as well, and once the "security
light" that came with the house burned out, we let it stay burned out.
Darkness is good.
Just think of all the energy we could save if we didn't insist upon
lighting the whole country up at night!

Jill
