The inconsistancy in growers' experiences with row covers is to be expected.
Row covers interact with the environment, making modest modifications in the
environment around the crop, hopefully beneficial. But seasons are different
from year-to-year and locations differ as well. Every grower will have a
unique set of conditions and challenges to using them. But I think that once
a grower learns the limitations of the product in the unique environment and
setup of their own farm, there will be a role for row covers in their
operation, particularly early and late in the season. I'm impressed that
Lucy was able to make use of them all season long. I'm glad she reported it.
Show's there may be more to row covers than just season extension and insect
control.
