Gee, Jay, I know you are right about small grower vs. large corporate grower
with label pricing.
When I first started growing it was experimental and I was trying to learn
how to do it. That turned out to be a lucky, great year.
But the folks who came to try to buy what I had... I was appalled at what
they were offering. The only thing I sold that year was squash. Just
because I didn't think I could use them all. But anything else, I thought,
I'd rather throw them on the compost heap than sell them at that price.
I did a lot of canning and freezing that year. Oh my, were my friends happy
with the case of Christmas presents they got. Folks, I know that many of
you do this with jellies and jams, but consider the nice surprise your
family and friends would have to get a case or a few jars of canned or
frozen bags of organically grown or just fresh picked and preserved tasty
vegetables or fruits.
