People will drive to buy any product - pastured poultry from Joel
Salatin, for example - because they understand the farm philosophy,
agree with the farm philosophy - and, most importantly, are attracted by
the personality of the farmer. Persona wins them over - and Joel has a
very fine one.
It really comes down to salesmanship and engaging with your customer.
In the marketing trade (from whence I came), we call this "relationship
marketing". The best relationship marketing is not manufactured in any
way; it simply springs from the farmer's own dynamic style.
