I just completed some soil tests on my 1 acre market vegetable plot, and
discovered that the PH of my soil has been climbing for the last 2
years. It has reached around 7.2. I haven't had any problems yet, but
this seems too high for most vegetables, especially potatoes. I think
what's caused this is that all the oyster shell flour I added 2 years
ago to correct a calcium deficiency (I'm now using gypsum instead) has
kicked in and caused the soil to become slightly alkaline. I've heard
that adding sulfur will bring the PH down. I'm a little reluctant to add
sulfur because I don't like adding unnecessary amendments, and I don't
want the PH to start bouncing up and down like a basketball. Also, I'm
an organic grower. Any suggestions?

Thanks- Peter Worsley in Northern CA
