>From my experience, it germinates best under 55*. The seedlings
require a cold period to produce strong plants that will flower well.
My self-sown larkspur sprouted in December, and has maintained a 3-4"
growth all winter. My soil temps were in the 35-40* range when it
sprouted, and they made it through a couple of snows and temps in the
teens. Hardiness zones 3-6 should plant as soon as the ground can be
worked, and those in zones 6-10 should plant in the fall. I'm in zone
8.
