I've managed a two acre asparagus patch in Central PA for the past couple
of years. We marketed through pick your own twice a week, on farm
sales, and also to local restaurants and grocery stores. getting people
to buy it after comparing it to the usual supermarket asparagus was no
problem. We also had a 10 day Asparagus Festival, were a local
restaurant advertised and featured our asparagus in their specialty
dishes. Relationships are everything! Our grocery store (Weis) buys
local produce, and always eagerly awaited our spring announcement that
the asparagus was up and ready!
We've started our asparagus from seed, and it did very well. Contact
Jersey asparagus-they do have a website-they have very good information
on cultivation and variety selection based on your location.
All the best of luck!
