A "Them Vs Us" mentality is what gets us swept into a corner and
forgotten. The Washington State Farmers' Market Association requires all
framers' markets to have growers make up more than 50% of its venders. The
City of Bainbridge Island built a world class "Market Square" as part of its
new city hall campus this year. But only after local growers attended many
Council, and Committee meetings. Board members of our local farmers' market
assoc. sit on the boards of downtown business associations. Small growers
need to learn to be politically active or accept being politically
disenfranchised. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and some pigs can sing.
