All good, except his belief that we're anywhere near a "tipping point." The only thing that will bring us there is for this to be repeated over and over and over on the mainstream news, morning and night, and we can all imagine how soon that's likely to happen.

Recently one of the meterologists on the Weather Channel asked people on her Facebook page to tell her what cereal they liked best. Out of the hundred and some responses, I think only two people mentioned oatmeal. For everyone else it was Captain Crunch, Count Chocula, Raisin Bran, Cheerios, etc., etc. These are relatively well-educated people, and they had no clue? Heaven help the rest of the general population.

Sigh, I feel so negative about this. But every time I ask someone, "Do you actually know what's in that?" I get answers like, "Oh, I'm not one of those elitist foodies! I eat what tastes good." Or "Maybe it's not perfect, but I can't afford organic." Or my all time favorite: "It must be okay or the government wouldn't let them sell it."

But keep posting quotes like this--makes me feel better to know that someone is paying attention.

Liz

Similar to Winona's lecture, Ikerd sums it all up for me. See his mountains of papers at the other link there.
