This is the area that Carol Deppe stressed in her book The Resilient
Gardener. True, some of her gardening methods are not acceptable to many of
us, but the rest, the emphasis on a few vegetables and preparation, is
excellent.
BTW, I noticed that those gardening methods are similar to those, recently
discussed, of Steve Solomon. They both started gardening in the Willamette
Valley, so I wonder if there's something unique there that encourages these
methods.
