Mark,
Where one lives, what type soil one has, etc is not important. The principles, organic/no-till/permanent bed/drip irrigation, apply.
If you are farming 15 acres and have 30, put the other 15 in a cover crop. It can be a summer or winter one. My first choice would be sudan as it produces high tonnage per acre of OM. Later use a legume. Buckwheat is a fast one. Then plant a winter one??
