I feel your pain! I cleared and cleaned our 4
acres of juniper thicket by hand, with axe and saw, for 22 years, until the ice
storm of 1995. Then, WITH chain saw, my wife and I spent 500 man-and-woman
hours cleaning up. UGH!

else to do?
I wish I could say I've been able to give all the recent post
the attention they deserved, but we were hit pretty hard by the ice storm
that went thru a couple of weeks ago and most of my time seems to be spent
behind a chainsaw these days. That's one modern convenience I'm glad
to have. While I want to add one and two (wo)man cross-cut saws to
our tool shed eventually, we don't have them yet and the amount of large
downed branches we have is staggering. Two years worth of firewood
easily, especially since the green elm will need to dry 2 years to burn
well. Our weather has been pretty good since the ice storm, which
helps with the clearing, but makes it frustrating, because there's so much
I need to be getting done in the garden and fields. You may recall,
I was just busy spreading my huge compost pile on one field where I want
to plant oats followed by mangles and dumping a big pile over into the
garden to be spread on the raised beds. I recently purchased a old
but serviceable, horse-drawn cultivator and I want to use it to further
spread the compost over the field for the mangels. And the work that
needs to be done in the vegetable garden is just daunting. And the
greenhouse! It's just about time to start seedlings and I haven't got the
sides on my greenhouse!
