The first thing I can see is that the handles are too short. Tall people
notice this about every tool in the store.
If you notice the guy in the picture, his back is bent over too far. Fine if
you are doing a couple of square feet around a bush, but not good in the
field.
Who uses a shovel where a hoe will do? Most of the time, you only need to hoe
like that when you let the weeds get too big, or you are killing grass that
is better killed by cardboard. (I'm starting to come around, Ken..;-)
Better to get out early and often with a diamond hoe (with 7ft tee handle),
then mulch.

I need a good thistle and burdock popper. Recommendations anybody?
