Cornfields also dot the landscape in a few places here in semi-arid New
Mexico. We know our climate was wetter and cooler in the past. Snowpacks
were deeper and water tables were higher a couple generations back. It's
believed some of the native settlements like the Chaco Culture were
abandoned after climate changes, possibly Mesa Verde and others. There were
wholesale migrations around the 1400s to established river valleys. I
believe we can do only so much by fighting climate and have to work with
it. We may yet see mass migrations in our time.
