You might also look at some of the old order Anabaptist religions. They have maintained without electricity/autos all along. They have maintained knowledge that has been lost to the rest of us, in addition to the tools and working animals.

In addition to that, a book titled More With Less, on how to get more out of life while at the same time consuming less of the worlds resources. Many ideas from peoples of the world who do live without power.

There are many communes. Google intentional community.
