I'm not familiar with the trees you are asking
about but they do wrap trees for other reasons.
Some ornamental conifers are wrapped so
that the snow and ice does not damage branches by pulling them to the ground.
I'm sure you know what freezing rain can do to trees. Also new plantings of
larger coniferous trees are wrapped to protect them from the sun as well as the
drying winds through the winter.
