Hello,
Here's some info and some questions, in random order.
I have a copy of the Canadian Clonal Gene Bank listings - which Margie sent to me a while back. It hasn't changed since 2003 - I think. They have to wait for things to be verified, which makes sense. I've already sent her a list of varieties that I have in my collection, which don't appear on her list. As soon as things fruit and can be confirmed, I'll be sending her scionwood. There are also many more varieties in her gene bank than listed, but they wait till there is sufficient scionwood / budwood available, as well as being verified, before they open up the variety for requests. I can send people copies if they want it. There's actually a great deal more varieties than I realized, although no where near the quantity of the US listings. Go to www.ars-grin.gov/gen/catalogs/Mcatalog.pdf if you want to find the US apple listings.
Bert, in the list from your posting there are two varieties that I'd love to get info on. They are Raven and Grandpa's. I have one of each, and would love to find out background, or, at the very least, if they're sweet, bittersweet, bittersharp, etc. I bought them as part of a cider package and I understand these two were orginally sourced from Inner Coastal Nursery, which folded a while back. Also, would this fellow like to trade any other ciders for a scion or two of Pitmaston Pineapple. I have a whack of scions coming in from Derek Bisset out west in the next few days. Vilberie, Kingston Black, Marachal, Sweet Coppin, Harry Master's Jersey and a couple others - plus a Bismarck for my nickname. ( I'm also acquiring some harder to find scionwood from a friend in a week or two, but can't confirm what's in the grouping. )
I would have to agree with Bert about having goodies in Canada. I'm tripping over varieties out west that are on my most wanted list, and it's mainly because of asking and poking around. Although it's too late for this winter, since things are now leafing out west, perhaps we should take the time over the summer / fall and put together a scion exchange / list / directory / whatever, so that we're organized for next winter. Food for thought.
So, if you want a copy of the Canadian Clonal list, send me a request with your mailing address.
Also, Tom, I need your mailing address to send you the Lady scionwood tomorrow.
Cheers, Bizmark
