all very true. it's a tradeoff between that local service and relationship vs. the price. in my case it seemed like a better deal.

if you prefer a full-service relationship with your tire provider, by all means pursue that sort of an offering. looks like a couple of good leads on this sort of a deal have already come in.

be aware there may also be an attitude based undercurrent at work here.

some tire shops may not have too positive an attitude towards the bring your own type of deal. understandable if a good amount of their revenue comes from markup on tire sales. i've never really felt like i'm cheating anyone though, as they are free to set prices for bring-your-own mounting and balancing as they see fit. and any rotation, balancing or other tire related services that i might need in the future i'll just pay for at a-la carte rates.
