I had similar questions for AOL who uses Bell South's lines. They were more concerned with amount of RAM I had available rather than the processor. They like to see 512K and up. They set me up with a utility program that checked the modem and incoming signal performance. This was a real eye opener. The Bell South line and signal was fine, actually borderline excellent. I freed up more memory and the browser performance significantly improved. The eye opener came when the tech expressed his satisfaction at throughput rates that I considered very slow, 256K. One a good night I can hit 760K. I'd check Bell South's site and the site of your modem's manufacturer for any modem utilities.
