We have been talking about some pretty high end stuff on this topic. You can get a great digital camera that will produce fantastic standard sized prints for $300. I bet this is more in line with what the original questioner was looking at. Any recommendations in this price range?

In the under $300 range I like the Olympus C line, C-40XX through C-50XX, etc. For example, the C-4000 I have is 4.0 megapixels, has a 3x optical zoom, your choice of full automatic, manual, or in-between. You can get external lenses like a wide angle or telephoto, as well as external TTL flash. You can get it new on eBay for around $300 or used close to $200.
