before i went to siberia i looked at the same camera as dave matuz but
instead bought a pentax optio (3 megapixal model) which fits in an Altiods
box (geek points there for sure). i love the camera and used it in all
kinds of situations

wonderful pentax optics, compact, cool looking and wonderful convenience.

macro and supermacro as well as telephoto etc.
http://www.ibiblio.org/pjones/russia/ for me learning to use the camera
whilst in moscow and in irkutsk.

true, true -- the Optio is an excellent competitor to the Exilim. Friends of mine (who are coming from /real/ pro photography backgrounds) who were looking for a nice, SMALL, easy point-and-click did heavy comparisons between the two. here is a link they had provided me:

if you want some examples of what pix i've taken with the Casio Exilim EX-S2, see:

http://ibiblio.org/matusiak/weddings/hayes-andrews/

or some of the random pix (well, all except the Tift and Luther pix) on:

http://ibiblio.org/matusiak/

and all the flower pix:

http://matusiak.org/

they have all been photoshop'ped and "Saved for the Web" so the source images are both larger in file size and slightly better in image quality.

good luck in your camera search!
