You're right, anything is better than nothing...And I must admit, my departments situation was even worse than the rest of the state system's....

Would this by any chance be the Information and comm specialist (the second biggest catch all in the state system besides computer consultant) working as a designer? If it is, do try to find the hiring supervisor. Last I checked (about 4 months ago), that one was inactive due to budget and was left up anyway. Might be worth a call to employment just to make sure that the job is in fact active, and that your packet has been recieved....

Best of luck to you. I hope you get the job and love it.

One caveat -- when you interview for the job, make sure you express your desire to take classes, and see if there are potential problems. My former job, shudder, limited me to working 8-5, m-f, 40 hrs/wk, and I had to take a 1 hour lunch break in the middle of the day. So if the class wasn't after 5, or between 12-1, I couldn't take it, even though that was supposedly one of my benefits...

Again, best of luck...

Hi Beth,

I'm a former UNC employee...  I'll warn you, I hated working there.
The benefits suck.

I assure you it would be an improvement over my current benefits. Which are nonexistent. And don't get me started on my shamefully low pay rate. I just think it would be mighty fine to work for the university because I could take a free class every semester, it's biking distance to my pad, and again, it'd be better benefits than I have now. And the job truly sounds cool.

I applied for the job in question earlier this week. Guess it's just a matter of playing the waiting game and/or figuring out who does the hiring for that department. And then bribing them. Or bribing any of you who might know who hires for the Acad. Aff. Library so you'll fill me in. Hint hint.

Beth
