Hi Beth,

I'm a former UNC employee... I'll warn you, I hated working there. The benefits suck. Don't think that state benefits are still good, cause they aren't. And raises suck ass. Their Insurance sucks ass. Their retirement sucks ass. But you do get a lot of vacation time, and it's generally low stress...and it's a job...

Anyway, UNC will tell you that in order to apply for a job, you must apply through UNC Employment, who will forward your information on to the correct hiring supervisor. Employment gets sort of annoyed if you bypass them.

However, I did it every time I applied (because, in general, employment doesn't know their ass from their head, though they have gotten better -- used to be they decided who was "qualified" to be sent to the person doing the hiring, usually not knowing how the hell to tell)... generally they either have a listing of the hiring supervisor, or you can figure it out by doing a search by title on the UNC Employee directory or by the department website....in this case, http://www.lib.unc.edu/staffdir/

The best thing is to send your application through employment, and try to get ahold of the hiring supervisor and make sure that they get the application (at least this is my opinion). Don't be afraid to email people and ask. State employees are usually bored. They generally like something that diverts them from their usual work.

Good luck on your search.

Best,
Drew

Hey,

Does anyone here work at UNC and know who to contact in the Academic Affairs Library about employment? There's a job open there that I truly, deeply, madly want. There's only generic info available at the UNC employment site.

Beth
