What kind of server are you attempting to send receive to/from? It may
be a variation in the protocols that a later Evolution build (I'm using
1.0.7 with Red Hat Limbo right now...)

A lot of people like Evo. A lot like KMail. I like mutt. but mutt is a
console app, and not everyone is hip to that.
It's all about personal choice and preference. The two "common" first
time/new user recommended desktops are currently Gnome and KDE. There
are pros and cons to both, which are well documented on the 'net in lots
of places (and no, "KDE/Gnome sux" is not a valid argument, although
you'll see that a lot, too).
For the more advanced users, there are a plethora of other,
easy/technical/complex desktops to use, like WindowMaker, Fluxbox,
Blackbox, FVWM2, IceWM, Afterstep....
I personally like flexbox (a fork from blackbox with some enhancements).
it's not for the faint of heart, since it has no fancy task list, menu
button or nifty widgets. Right click on the desktop for a menu. middle
click for a task list. You have to edit the menu files by hand. But it's
small (uses very little disk/memory) and fast, and I can customize it
quickly and easily, so I like it.
