Subject: [Homestead] Pumpkins

Well, there will be no *real* homemade pumpkin pie tomorrow.  Youngest and I
set out to do a couple of canner's worth of pumpkin to have to puree later
and the pie pumpkins are worthless!  A whole row of pie pumpkins and every
single one of them is majorly hollow and has less than 1/2" of "meat."  Good
for the chickens and that's about it!

I haven't a clue what happened to them this season.  Anyone have any ideas?
Now, they weren't saved seeds.  DH and youngest went and grabbed all the
seeds last year and roasted them.  Go figure!  So I bought Sugar Pie from
Baker Creek.

Tools, I just looked at the ad and tomorrow Sears is selling an 8
piece wrench set (sae or metric) for $10 and a craftsman screwdriver
set for $10. This is like zero dark thirty until noon.
$10 for craftsman wrenches or screwdrivers is a good deal.

FWIW I turned wrenches professionally for more than 20 years. At one
point we went from generic wrenches to all Craftsman and it was
better. Then a few years later we went from Craftsman to Snap-on and
to be honest I really didn't notice a difference.

I later worked at a front end shop and was offered a choice, use my
own tools or the tools that were there. I used Buster's tools.
The wrenches hanging on the wall were chrome, both sae & metric and
had the word "CHINA" stamped prominently on them. For 5 years I was
there I used those wrenches everyday and never once had a problem
with the quality.

I have some impact sockets that I bought from Harbor Freight and have
not had a problem with them. I don't use them everyday but at time I
use them really hard, I don't regret buying them.
