I looked at that announcement from an economic perspective, and laughed my
head off.  My first thought was that the masters of the universe just tipped
their hand about their thoughts of our future in 2016.  I laughed even harder
at the stunned look of the people gathered in Chicago to celebrate the
announcement.  If my guess is correct 2016 will look pretty ugly in the US,
not just Chicago.

What you didn't see were all the people who were at home drawing deep
sighs of relief. I was living in Chicago when the Pope visited, and it
was a mess in downtown by all reports; I stayed home.

The whole world may look bad by 2016. May we all live long enough to
find out, or maybe not.
