Part of the problem with the whole discussion is that there isn't a "whole" discussion and can't/won't ever be one. The different sections of this country are like whole different countries.

Where I grew up there were no black/white drinking fountains or bathrooms or use the back of the bus. It was like reading about people living in another country.

I grew up in Marietta-Cobb County GA, but in a time after that of which you speak. For me, too, is is like reading about another country. I sat right next to the black kids on my school bus-in the front. I never saw separate bathrooms or fountains, etc. A black family lived adjacent to our house on the street where I grew up.

I did learn a lot about the whole mind set from Grampa Charlie (Tennessee) and my nanny (Georgia) but it was still way different than what was on television. Of course, neither of them lived in the big cities. They lived rural. So there you have a whole other "country" too.

Yup.

Personally, I think we've gone WAY overboard with this whole PC thing. Screaming "racism" has become an excuse to stop people from looking at the real problem(s).

Ironically, it is the differences between us that make our species highly adaptable and prolific. If we can learn to celebrate differences instead of trying to meld together, we will continue to grow and evolve.
