I'm growing Waltham Butternut Squash. I sowed the seed on March 5 and transplanted it to the garden, in hills, on April 12. It is supposed to be about 100 days. I'm never sure whether you count from seeding or from transplanting on something like this, but either way, I have ripening squashes on the vine. I was going to pick them until someone told me that I should wait until right before frost, that they need the cold, like sweet potatoes. So now I am confused. I have lots of ripe looking squashes out there, should I leave them alone or pick them and store them inside?
Conflicted, but leaning towards filling up a couple of laundry baskets, I am.
My acorn squash got a late start and is just now blooming. I'm hoping that they will ripen before October...they should, but it has been a strange year.
Is anyone growing Hubbards or other winter squashes?
