Yes, in the tires the "hilling" up I did was strictly done by is adding straw
and leaves, and a few sprinkles of fertilizer, all by hand nothing else....
there is no room to put a shovel in there.  Yes, 2 tires high, and then they
flowered.  Although there are 2 stack (of a total of 6) I was getting ready
to put a 3rd tire on and then noticed the first flower buds in the tires, so
didn't bother.

The other hills that are of dirt are planted in rows, no tires.  Those I
didn't get far hilling up when the flowers showed up.... but the sandy area
they are planted in, I rotor-tillered up the soil very well and the soil is
still soft when wet.  The soil here is sure different than other places I've
lived.

Leslie, I just want to make sure we are on the same page.  For the
potatoes that I grow in tires, there is no 'hilling up'-no hoe is
needed.  In these parts, hilling up means that you moved the dirt into a
raised area using a hoe.  With tires, you just stack one tire onto
another and add a mulch, like waste hay or even pine straw.  You could
add some soil, too, but that would be with a shovel.  20" is about two
tires tall.  Is this what you have?

Well, DH was out doing high weed mowing. He's tried manual, he's tried a
weedeater and this year he decided to try the high weed mower. Every once
in a blue moon he'll scare up a quail. Generally they stay away from the
house because we have 6 cats and 2 dogs plus we now have an additional dog
and cat (Son #3 and girlfriend have moved their 5th wheel onto ye ol'
homestead with Pugsley and Zoe).

Well, to make a long story short, he hit a quail and she was sitting on a
nest. 14 eggs. Called up a friend and got her incubator and set the eggs
in. Haven't a clue how long she had been sitting on them, so we'll see what
we shall see.

Anyone ever hatched any quail eggs? If so, any hints?
