Hair splitting. Donkey's will eat just about anything. If they have
pasture, they will eat that and do fine. If they don't, they will eat what's
there.
During the Drought of Bibilical Proportions of the past two years, the
winter pastures were so bare (because of no rain from June to December) that
the
horse lost a lot of weight and the cow had to be fed all and sundry bulky
supplements such as beet pulp.
The donkey? He gained weight.
He ate the lichens and moss by the creek and crunched up pine cones and
greenbriar.
But now he's on thick, rich clover pasture and he's still in top shape.
