The new Austin store is 80,000 sf and has seven restaurants inside, and
three levels of below ground parking with an escalator that holds your
cart, too. There are more people in one aisle at any given moment than
my entire county. I'm not sure where you shopped, was it this large?
This was the standard supermarket sized place, other than the size and selling food.... A gas fired (instead of wood fired) pizza oven, the deli, an Asian salad bar, a seafood salad bar, a regular salad bar, a nice looking produce section, a bakery that claims "we bake this fresh every morning", a book section with food & health books, a "cooking & lifestyle" school! Free wifi and numerous small tables and benches all around the front of the store. I don't want to forget the coffee place... This store is in Bellevue,WA.
FWIW the prices are well above around here but the cost of everything goes down as you get away from Seattle and the I-5 corridor.
Now I shop at the one in San Antonio, not as new or big, but I did
notice they have all their local produce labeled as such now. Their eggs
are $4.50/doz for cage free.
I thought that the "cage fee" was a great sales tactic.
