Bev,

I've got to replace some of my truck tires in the next couple weeks here.

What did you use to cut the sidewalls off to make the "potato tire patches".

How many potato eyes/seeds do you put in each tire?   Do the potato vines
spill out of the tire?

What is the real reason for growing them in tires?

and Sage, can they be grown in the desert and if so, is there any reason to
not grow them in tires (i.e. too hot)?

I did already order sweet potato and regular white, they won't arrive until a
few months from now.

Thanks

Kind of strange...the way it played out in my inbox was like email animation..

I'm saving your post, Bob...
It is a scary scenario you paint. I hope we don't go there. I would
never ridicule you for saying what you believe will happen.
I was motivated to make my move as I was worried about Y2K collapses. I
am not ashamed of it, either. Of course, as we neared zero hour in late
1999 , I was not worried about it, but in 1996 and 1197, I certainly
was. By the time I got here, in late 1998, I felt like I was in a race
against time. By the time I realized that the Y2K crisis was a
non-crisis, I was already in high gear here and it took me several years
to gear down. In fact, it took my health to fail for me to gear down.

I say, whatever motivates you to become more self sufficient and to live
a more sustainable lifestyle is a good enough...whether that is the fear
of depression, hyperinflation, Barack Obama, trucking strikes, Neocon
Bushies, The Farm, jobloss, Greenpeace, Euell Gibbons or Les Stroud...so
be it. The point is, don't be reactive to whatever happens, be
pro-active and hedge your bets against anything that might happen.
