It is recommended, but not required that we buy a book to maintain records
in, we are responsible for what we sign for, so it is certainly advisable.
There is not an oversight procedure, and our records are not submitted, they
are
for our use if we were to be called into court. The notaries I spoke with
when I first got mine had never actually kept records, but I do.

Sounds like you had a good notary.
I'm always impressed when people actually do their job without someone
