Really.  I guess I was under a rock or something.  The only noun I've ever
heard with uppity is bitch.  I've been thinking about it, and I think Drew is
on to something with the actions thing.  Like my neighbor riding his John
Deere...

I started school in 1967, after integration, but the area was mostly white at
that time.  Now it is mostly all black.  There were only about 3 black kids
at my elementary school, so how was I to know.  I grew up, sadly, in a family
where the n word was used a good bit.  I refuse to say it today.  You would
think that with all the racist crap I listened to as a kid, I would have
heard it, but I didn't.  What's funny is that my family watched their old
neighborhood change from white to black. They have some black friends now and
they have done a 180 on racism.  They are voting for Obama...lol...they like
him.

Really? I've heard uppity "n" used for decades and mainly in the
south and
Texas. It was as though the two words were permanently attached.

My nanny was from Georgia and I first heard it from her back in the 50s. In
fact, she was the first person I ever heard use the "n" word. And she was
black. Our schools were direct opposites. My had a 70-80% black
population, or more.
