Has anyone noticed that the deer seem to cycling later and later in the year?
Normally, I think they would go into estrus in November, but some around
here have gone back in repeatedly because I am seeing very young fawns-still
wobbly- less than a few weeks old- this late in the season. Gestation is
about 6.5 months(200 days). If the fawns I am seeing were born in mid August,
then the doe would have conceived in early February. That is more than 5
cycles!! I read that herd condition can play a part in this, so I am
guessing that overcrowding is leading to malnourishment, which is leading to
poor conception or inability to mate or lack of estrus? Has anyone else
noticed any of this in your area?

Well, I don't really wish September to be cool since we had 60 days without
sunshine, the sky being covered in a thick layer of smoke. The garden was
NOT happy and the plants all sat there like bumps on logs. It was 101 today
and tomorrow and the next couple of days are supposed to be the same or
hotter.
HOWEVER, the nights are cooling down which is the problem for the garden. I
swear, if it ain't one thing it's another. The cool nights are making the
pumpkins and watermelons come to a screeching halt. And the tomatoes are
thinking of just sitting there green till the frost comes!
Oh well, as I said before, as long as I have homemade jam (so far
strawberry, boysenberry, black raspberry, red raspberrry, marionberry and
blueberry) and biscuits, what more could one ask for. I did get a load of
watermelon rind pickles done, spicy veggie mix and some zucchini pickles
(bread and butter, dill, and kosher). I mean, the zuc's are gonna grow even
if the world comes to an end <g>
