It's a minefield. In actuality, we have relatively low abortion rates
compared to other countries, I think.  I don't know how accurate it still is,
but check this out:
http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/journals/25s3099.html
This is an issue that cuts right down to the character and morality in
Western society, so if we as a country, forbid abortion on those grounds as
the ultra conservative would want, how does that play with the rest of the
world?  Do we dare tell the Chinese - "oh and in addition to all the other
human rights concessions we want you to make- you also need to stop
abortions, because the unborn have rights, too".  Nope, I don't see that
happening, because culturally, I think the majority of us actually see the
necessity of the act in at least some circumstances.  (Let your mind go off
on that tangent of population control and the environment, earth resources,
etc.....I can see it now with the ultra terrorists..the right to lifers vs.
the tree huggers..lol)
But anyway, I didn't see what you are talking about, so tell me, what did he
say as to HOW can find middle ground, because lessening (via abstinence,
birth control, RU486 or whatever) hasn't really worked.
I'm naive on a lot of stuff, and this seems really naive-even to me, to think
that we could find middle ground on something so entrenched in one's personal
morality.  I think the middle of the road approach is just postponing the
battle, a way for politicians to keep everyone happy without actually doing
anything.

Nothing is that simple. Does not voting the party you are registered as
constitute lying? The parties I most identify with (like the Green
Party) didn't even exist when I registered. I'm free to vote for
whomever I want, so why bother changing registration? I vote for who
most exemplifies my philosophy on how to run the country, not for a
party (or race or gender).
