And here, but we've lucked out. In fact, in 2004 we had a killing frost on
May 24 in most of the county but we're in a micro-climate that's a degree or
two warmer because we missed it and our blueberries escaped. Everyone
lamented that summer about not having blueberries, but we kept our mouths
shut because we still had them.
We do have blue mouths. We eat frozen blues in a fruit smoothie every
morning M-F for breakfast. I make blueberry syrup, blueberry muffins, pies,
and even a salad in summer that I add blues to it. We add them to diced
canteloupe in summer for fruit salad. We eat them fresh and we eat them
frozen. I canned blueberry applesauce one year. Maybe this year it's time to
revisit that idea.
The salad is romaine & spinach w/ a bit of red onion diced, with a bit of
blue cheese, some frozen or fresh blues and some toasted pecans or walnuts
(whathaveyou). This is not something we make often, but when we want a
'fancy' salad. I forget what salad dressing I use, but think it's either the
raspberry vinaigrette or blue cheese based.
The smoothie is a scoop of whey protein powder per person (husband and
myself), one banana, two oranges, one apple, one handful of frozen blues, 2
T. of flax oil and/or ground flax seeds (soon to be replaced by white chia
seeds), and 1 c. of water w/ 1/4 c. of cranberry juice. Blend until smooth.
Today is my errand & appt day with my live-in client. You all have a
wonderful day.
