You have to watch the naval and any type of ointment. You are talking the equivalent of a puncture wound and by putting an ointment into a cavity you might be creating a closed oxygen free area which is a breeding ground for some mighty nasty and sometimes deadly bugs!

I'd iodine the beejeebers out of it. Squeeze and make it bleed if possible and then get it good and dry. Repeat the iodine a time or two more. Then be vigilant.
