Yes, actually you could. There are millions of folks in Southern California who have never experienced a fire, mudlide or an earthquake that has done damage. You pick and choose your area, just like in Texas.

Southern California is one BIG area. The fires are in specific areas and you get nasty wildfires everywhere, not just Southern California. And you are only seeing a lot of them in the news lately because of "stupid people tricks." Southern California *had* lots of native plants once upon a time. Those plants are fire resistant. Those plants do not encourage fires that run ripping through areas. Some of the native plants societies have been holding workshops all over Southern California to show folks what to plant. You can't force people to protect themselves, so, unfortunately, those who do the smart thing are quite frequently "punished" by stupid people who move into an area and bring their "stupid" with them.

AND, greed! Realtors and contracts are the main ones setting up the scenario for the disasters. Realtors know what happens in any given area. Contractors know better but are only interested in the bottomline.

So, again, yes, there are folks in Southern California who have never experienced an earthquake, a fire, or a slide. And many of them are second, third, fourth or more generations of folks who haven't had any of those experiences.

I think the difference is that yeah, other areas have these disasters,
true, but not as a yearly event like SoCA. Tornados probably equal
earthquakes in damage...Santa Ana winds probably equal hurricanes, but
tornados and hurricanes are low odds kind of events, whereas the winds
out there are a given due to terrain and season, and earthquakes are a
given due to geology. You could go 2 or 3 generations in say South
Texas without seeing a flood, tornado, blizzard, or hurricane in your
area, but could you go even one generation in Southern California
without earthquake or wind/fire/mudslide damage?
