As for critter versus human survival, that seems to me like a no-
brainer.

It's a serious, litigious<sp> brainer here. So, just for clarity, what
side of the river are you on?

I am a human. So humans come first. If human existence is threatened by lesser animals' existence, well, nature is the law of the jungle and we are the rulers of the jungle. I, my family, my community and my fellow citizens drink before the critters.

But the question no doubt is, does it really come down to that? Can a desired species be protected without imperiling human quality of life? That's why we have laws and judges; they get to weigh the evidence and make those decisions. But if they mess up very much on the issue of water they may find themselves on a rail out of town, so to speak.
