You take my point.

I remember some fifteen years or so ago when an unenlighteed relative (by
marriage) asked Denise "Well, have you gotten tired of playing Ms Farm Wife
yet?"
And see your recent similar question.

I was merely curious since she has been quiet lo these many years. If
life is as you portray, I think she's mighty lucky to have ended up in
those circumstances (and let's not, please, get into a discussion of
lucky).

The same is true of your speculation that someone resolved to resolve their
life out decently and reasonably and make sure it is no burden to themselves
and others is, says I, ill likely to reconsider and flinch in the end.

I don't consider your circumstances in making that speculation: I only
consider human nature. I am sympathetic to your point of view. Perhaps
I'm only reflecting my own misgivings. My mother often said that if it
came to that she could live in a retirement home, but what would be
the point. As we reach fragile old age, many choices get taken away.
But we don't, until we're moribund, give up striving for life. At
least not generally.

My fondest hope is to be found dead with the hoe in my hand or slumped over
the workbench.

Amen.

Did you ever see the the flick "Outlaw Josie Wales"? When Clint Eastwood
rides out to meet the Indians they ask him why he came. He said to die. He
said
his piece and then added that since he was there to die, there was iron in
his works of death, so they could know there was also iron in his words of
life.

Uh-huh. For years I've understood that I accomplish the most when I
have nothing to lose. It's frightening almost what a person can
accomplish when they've decided they have nothing to lose. But
maintaining that state is a little more difficult.

Marie
