Those temps sound about right for zone 7ish....we are 6, and can get from
-10 up into the 100+. Those trees you mention all grow here in our woods
(eastern deciduous forest). I wonder if the fabulous Bigleaf Magnolia
would grow your way? Sassafras? Any number of beeeautiful Japanese
Maples?
With that man's energy, you can have it allllllll!

I'm in NE pa and all of those Lynda mentioned will do just fine. There are
dwarf magnolias that are often seen around here in landscaping. Flowering
trees and shrubs that are favorites are lilac, forsythia, azalea,
rhododendron, mountain laurel, golden chain, flowering crabs and pears and
mimosa. I like paw-paws -- cool looking trees and good fruit. Those
fern-leafed Japanese maples are great looking trees, but they seem to be
short lived. Shag-bark birch planted in a clump makes a striking show. And
contorted willow or contorted hazelnut. I keep threatening to get a
contorted hazelnut, but haven't yet. There is a red-twigged dogwood that is
nice even in the winter. I wish I had more land. Sigh. Have fun.
