Chris, what's wrong with leveling off an area and using large pallets? That allows air to circulate under the wood and keeps it off the ground.
As for seasoning the wood, we start cutting wood this time of year for next year. Unless it is standing dead wood, if it isn't down before the sap runs again in the Spring, it won't dry out enough. I guess you figured that one out, huh. :)
