A friend told me this story, though I haven't tried to
verify it. Apparently Lamborghini started out as a
tractor maker.

This is true. Lamborghini started building tractors in 1947. He used surplus military hardware to make tractors for war torn Italy. He went into autos after the comment by Ferrari about sticking with tractors after he commented that the Ferrari gearbox was too loud.

The one Ferrari tractor I have seen was a small crawler made for working the vinyards.

There are also Ferrari, Porsch, Volvo, Renault, and a couple of others I
cannot remember.

Wow! A Ferrari tractor! I can see it. V-12. Italian racing red paint. Turbo-charged. A bit of a spoiler on the trailing edge of the ROPS. It would be the talk of the 'hood. Such a machine would no doubt be a powerful attractant to farm girls from towns hours around. Heaven. Phew!
