Bev,
I have the same gun, but in the 8 inch " Bull " barrel. I don't have a holster for, because I haven't found one that worked with the barrel. Is yours the shorter barrel? Does the tactical holster in your previous post work well? I like the Ruger, but it is a bugger to
break down and clean.
Okay, first, I have to make a correction....for whatever reason, I wrote
that I had a M.K. IV, but it is actually a Mark II frame, classic Sturm
Ruger M.K. II, rimfire, blue, with a 4 3/4" standard barrel.
It looks just like this MK III4 from the Ruger web site:
http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdResults?function=famid&famid=55&variation=Standard&bct=Yes&type=Pistol
I don't know the difference between the MKIII and the MKII. I thought
the 8" barrel was more for target and the little one was too small....it
just seemed the right size for me, and I liked the way it looked-kind of
James Bondish<g>.
The holster is not closed, and the tip of the barrel does protrude a
bit, but not excessively, I'd say maybe a an inch of barrel showing when
the gun is holstered. I do like my tac holster, mainly because I have a
short torso and long arms and legs, (I'm 5'11, well, probably closer to
5'10 these days) and having the gun on my leg instead of my hip, well,
it's just easier to draw and the gun doesn't get in the way when I am
working. Before I bought the holster, I borrowed several from my cop
buddies and experimented with what was comfortable for me to wear as
well as styles that would allow quick and easy access to the gun itself.
For me, the clear choice was the tactical holster. And yeah, I love my
little Ruger, too, but you are right in that it is a real PITA to break
down and clean. I will clean the barrel and chamber fairly often as
that is easy without totally disassembling it, but a total breakdown is
only done once a year or so, and I usually get Ron to do that for me
simply because he is better at it than me, and he has the hand strength
and fine motor skills to get the gun back together.
That Pro-3 Tac Holster is the exact one I have.

Tim, I see no reason why you couldn't use this holster. Your 8" barrel
will stick out a bit, but that shouldn't be a big issue, would it? It
would seem to me that as long as the pistol was secure in the holster
that it wouldn't make much of a difference, although a gun expert I am NOT.
My only regret is not getting a belt when I got the holster. You
notice that the duty belt in the picture is the 2" variety, and I think
I would rather have a 1.5 inch belt. I'm still hoping someone can
answer my belt questions....here's the link again...

Thanks all...
