Clint, I can't be of much help in the employment arena. My greatest expertise is in finding and buying rural property. Each person is unique in their abilities, wants and needs but, in general, the best plan is to identify your ideal place, get the deed on it, then stay employed wherever you can make the most money to get the land paid for and your building/savings/retirement fund established before you move. Being out of debt and staying out of debt is the best plan to live the homestead life. How you pull off the financial end of it is up to you.

The Ava area is about an hour and a half from Springfield and about three and a half hours from St. Louis. Good roads both ways. I know people who work in both places and commute to their rural property on the weekends. Some people work in Springfield and commute from the Ava area but that is a drag, especially during winter months. Springfield is on a high plateau preceeding a wide ridge to the east and gets some nasty weather most winters--ice-laden electric lines and poles toppling, ice-covered roads, that sort of thing. Not conducive to dependable commute conditions.

My current employment/retirement plan is winning the lottery, barring
that I am open to ideas. I am hoping to buy my acreage in the ozarks
and possibly move outside a metro area like St. Louis or Springfield for
a time. I may try to go into computer consulting and commute when I
need to meet with someone. I'm hoping for a nationwide health plan soon
since that is my main concern for my family. It's a plan in the making,
but getting the property is the first step. Getting closer to the
property and a warmer climate in a couple of years is the second step,
maybe getting a cheap mobile home somewhere in there to stay at.

Clint

Clint, I forgot to mention that Charlie and his agents have helped a
number
of people who have requested help from me because of my book.

I am given a bit of heat over the fact that a fair number of people have

moved to that part of the world based on my recommendation. Considering
the
population density, I think they are overreacting.

One thing you must know is that a major reason why the middle Ozarks'
real
estate prices are modest is because employment opportunities are
lacking.
