Doreen -- One last point on those peonies. Remember that right now, the root systems are essentially dormant, so the plant lives on what's stored in its "fingers." Lifting them out after you have thoroughly loosened them with a pitchfork is the recommended approach and critically important to the plants' survival. Try to keep as many of the fingers attached as you can. The root systems will begin to grow into their new home in the fall when temperatures cool so preparing the new planting area is just as important. Lastly, keeping them well-watered without drowning them is also key to their survival. Based on your description, you may get some leaf burn as you expose these plants to a sunnier spot in the middle of the growing season. So you may want to acclimate them to the brighter light by using umbrellas or shade cloth propped up on bamboo poles for a few days. Lorraine Lorraine Ballato
