It's not the subject or basic facts that get protected, but each
individual expression of those facts. Pull out your seed catalogues,
books, etc. and look at the different sets of germination
instructions. Norm Deno's are very different from Rocky Mountain Rare
Plants and so on, and so on.

Exactly. My first question on reading the original post was "who's
instructions?". I've included germination instructions for many
plants in past articles; some from sources with attribution and some
as compilations of many sources and some from my own experience.
It's how you word the instructions that counts. There's no "one way"
to germinate any seed. If one wants to use someone else's wording,
one needs to provide quotes and attribution for same IMO.
